Billy Steers, the Connecticut author of Tractor Mac will be joining us at the sugar house on March 3, 2012. Bring the kids for a book signing, meet & greet with the author (Billy Steers) and a book reading. You'll also be able to meet Tractor Mac and take some photos with him!

New Sign being installed

The new sign is being installed this week by Rob and crew in our front lawn. Rob dug the holes and is preparing to pour concrete to secure the sign poles. Ron is helping out.

Sugaring Season in Connecticut

Every year, around this time we start to tap the sugar maple trees. The days start to get longer, it still freezes at night and it warms up during the day.

When I was little, we tapped trees up and down our street. They were all galvanized buckets and we collected it all by hand with 5-gallon buckets. We dumped the freshly harvested sap into a big collection tank on the back of my Dad's truck. Since we now have over 5,000 taps we no longer use any buckets. Everything is tapped in and connected with blue tubing. Which runs down at the bottom of the hill into big collection tanks. Dad and the boys go out each day and pump out the sap into the tank on the truck.... when there is a big run, he'll many times put a tank on the trailer too.

What started as a hobby has now become a big business. We produce so much more than maple syrup. Over the last few years, I worked on developing recipes for jams, cookie mixes, spice rub and maple barbeque sauce. Our country gift store is packed full of wonderful New England and Canadian made products (including spices, maple cream cookies, Stonewall Kitchen products, Vermont cheese and such) We also have a wide assortment of hard to find kitchenwares.
Come see what our store has to offer. We're so much more than just maple syrup! Our store is open seven days a week. Join us for tours of the sugar house and watch us making maple syrup, February and March on the weekends from 1-5 pm.

Sugaring Season approaching quickly

We are out in the woods right now reparing all the tubing lines and putting in nearly 5,000 taps. Sugaring season is a New England tradition where as spring is approaching the maple sap starts to flow. Lamothe's Sugar House is one of the largest operations in Connecticut.

Bring your family to our farm and sugar house on Saturday or Sundays during February and March to watch maple syrup being made. Robert Lamothe and Ron Bacon will go over the history of how maple syrup was once made and how it is made today. It is a facinating process for the whole family to enjoy and share the experience.

Sample many of the maple products made at our farm, enjoy hot maple coffee and mulled cider from a local farm and shop from our wonderful selection of New England made products. On our farm, we make 7 different varieties of Jams (most popular being Maple Apple Jam and Raspberry Rhubarb Jam), Maple Barbeque sauce, Maple Farmhouse spice rub and we pop Maple Kettle corn fresh each weekend.
